An early morning fire gutted a bar in a strip mall in the West Hills section of Huntington Thursday and damaged neighboring stores, fire officials said.

The fire is under investigation by the Suffolk County police Arson Squad and the Town of Huntington fire marshal.

Huntington Manor fire department second assistant chief Fred Steenson Jr. said the emergency call reporting the fire came in at about 3:40 a.m.

He said more than 50 firefighters responded to the scene, the Rare Olive bar in a strip mall at 400 W. Jericho Tpke.

"The fire was pretty much contained to that store, while there was some damage extended to the store next to it," Steenson said. He said the lounge was destroyed.

He said the fire was under control in about 30 minutes. Other stores in the strip mall include a hair salon, nail spa, dry cleaners and a yoga center. Some were damaged by smoke and water.

Firefighters from Huntington, Melville and Greenlawn also helped to battle the blaze.
