A Bridgehampton house was totally destroyed and at least three others were damaged in a fire late Friday night, Southampton Town police said.

Authorities received a call about a fire on Fair Hills Lane at about 10:20 p.m., said Southampton Town Police Lt. Susan Ralph.

“When the fire departments responded, the house had significant active fire, and the embers from the house went on to the second house and caught that on fire, and the embers from that house caught the third house on fire,” Ralph said. “So it was pretty intense.”

A fourth house was also damaged, a police news release said.

“One house is totally lost, one house has severe damage, and the third house has moderate damage,” Ralph said.

The fourth house had what the news release described as "minor damage."

At least two of the homes had been occupied, but the people inside were able to escape, the news release said.

There were no injuries, Ralph said.

Sixteen fire departments from as far as Montauk responded to the blaze, as did five ambulances, said Ralph.

Police and fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire, Ralph said.
