An early-morning fire gutted a private home in Patchogue Monday morning, but the occupants escaped without injury, officials said.

The Arson Squad of the Suffolk County Police Department responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, but there appears to be no criminality involved, a police spokeswoman said.

The fire broke out about 2 a.m. in the two-story house on Dogwood Lane and was brought under control about an hour later.
