A home in Huntington Station burst into flames late Saturday morning, causing a man inside to suffer smoke inhalation and his wife minor burns, Suffolk police said.
The couple escaped on their own from the blaze, which appears to have begun in the front right corner of the house, and were taken to a hospital to be treated, Brian Christen, Huntington Manor third assistant chief, said by telephone.
"Where it started, there is pretty extensive damage," Christen said, though structurally the house appears to have survived.
Fire departments from Melville, Huntington, Huntington Manor and Greenlawn responded and extinguished the fire on Armell Street, officials said.
Arson investigators will probe what caused the blaze, which was reported shortly after 11 a.m., police said.
No more details were immediately issued.
