Retired FDNY firefighter Peter R. D'Ancona, 54, and his girlfriend, Tina Sgambati, 51, both of Moriches, were found dead Sunday on this docked boat in Cherry Grove, Suffolk police said. Credit: Stringer News Service

Two people on a docked boat in the Fire Island community of Cherry Grove were found dead Sunday afternoon, Suffolk County police said.

They are believed to have died from carbon monoxide poisoning, police said in a news release.

Authorities found Peter D’Ancona, 54, and Tina Sgambati, 51, both of Moriches, aboard a 35-foot Mainship boat docked near Bayview Walk around 2:25 p.m., the release stated. 

They were pronounced dead at the scene by a Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's physician assistant, according to the release.
