The three ferry companies providing service to Fire Island communities plan to alter Friday schedules because of expected rough waters from Hurricane Earl.

Fire Island Ferries in Bay Shore is suspending service to Fire Island at 3 p.m. Friday, the service said on its website.

The corresponding returns from Kismet, Saltaire, Ocean Beach, Seaview and Ocean Bay Park will be the final boats leaving Fire Island for the day. The exceptions on returns are from Dunewood, with a 3:30 p.m. replacing the originally scheduled 4:30 p.m. return; and from Fair Harbor with a 3:30 return instead of a scheduled 4:20 p.m. return.

The Davis Park Ferry Co. in Patchogue is planning to re-evaluate its service Friday afternoon.

"It depends on the weather," a spokeswoman said. "We won't know until after 3:20 p.m., and we'll take a look at what boats are running."

Davis Park operates daily service to the Fire Island communities of Davis Park and Watch Hill.

Sayville Ferry Service in Sayville suspended all service to Sunken Forest and Water Island, a spokeswoman said, and will run some boats to Fire Island Pines and Cherry Grove.

Late evening service to both Fire Island Pines and Cherry Grove have been canceled, she said.

The last boats to each destination from Sayville are at 9:30 p.m. with returns at 10 p.m.

Normal service for all three ferry lines is expected to resume Saturday morning.
