Fire Island school district
VOTING
3 to 9 p.m. at the Woodhull Elementary School gymnasium in Ocean Beach.
THE BUDGET
The district proposes a $6,192,927 budget for 2015-16, a 0.31 percent increase from the current $6,173,820. The local tax levy would not rise from the current $5,039,158, and since there is no increase to the local tax levy, a simple majority vote will be required to approve the budget.
School taxes on the average single-family home in the Town of Brookhaven would be an estimated $23.69 per $100 of assessed valuation, and in the Town of Islip would be an estimated $1.70 per $100 of assessed valuation, district officials said. Both are unchanged from the previous year.
The proposed budget includes a contractual teacher pay increase of 1.5 percent and an average step increase of 1.98 percent.
THE CANDIDATES
Incumbents Lisa Kaufman, Kathleen Skelly-Kurka and Amy Wood are running unopposed for three at-large seats. Terms are three years.
