Saltaire officials said this week that discounted ferry tickets are now available for bulk purchase.
Officials last week approved spending $159,000 to purchase about 600 books of Fire Island Ferries tickets, village administrator Mario Posillico said. Those books will then be sold to groups of residents, providing them with about a 10 percent discount, he said.
Books of 40 tickets sell for $272 each with the village’s discount. They will be available for pickup at village hall in the spring.
The village has been selling the books for at least 25 years, the length of time Posillico has worked there, making it “a rite of spring” among residents to come and get them ahead of the busy summer season, he said.
Ferry service to Saltaire is offered year-round, except for when the Great South Bay freezes over or when service is otherwise impacted by winter weather.
The ticket application is available on the village website at saltaire.org.
