Firefighters from a dozen departments on Suffolk County’s South Shore responded to a house fire in the Fair Harbor section of Fire Island on Saturday night, authorities said.

The fire was reported about 8:30 p.m. at a home on Elm Walk that quickly became engulfed in flames.

Firefighters said the vacant home nearly burned to the ground.

Fire officials said the fire spread to two other homes, which were moderately damaged. No injuries were reported.

Residents in Bay Shore posted photos online showing the glowing fire across the water.

The fire was contained in under an hour, though fire crews remained on the site.
