One firefighter was taken to a hospital with heat exhaustion Thursday after an early morning fire in Middle Island, fire officials said. But police said all residents in the house escaped without injury - and fire officials said the fire was extinguished without incident.

The blaze on Arnold Drive near South Street was reported in a 911 call at 5:12 a.m., Suffolk County police said.

Fire officials said engines from Middle Island were dispatched at 5:14 a.m.

Volunteers from Coram, Gordon Heights, Ridge and Rocky Point also fought the fire, which was extinguished within an hour, officials said.
