A fire in residential apartments above commercial business space forced the closure of Main Street in Kings Park on Friday, and fire and police officials said arson investigators were on the scene trying to determine the cause.

The fire at 7A Main St. was reported at 11:20 a.m., Suffolk County police said, and fire officials said it took volunteers about an hour to bring the fire under control.

Fire officials said the fire was in a second-floor apartment over a commercial business. The building is part of a line of buildings that share a common roof -- raising concerns the fire might spread to the adjoining buildings, officials said.

Firefighters from Kings Park, Smithtown, Commack, Northport, East Northport and St. James fought the blaze.

The Long Island Power Authority cut power to the area while firefighters worked.

The fire forced the closure of Route 25A, Main Street, between Renwick Avenue and Henry Street.

Indian Head Road also was closed at Route 25A.
