Seven East End fire departments worked Tuesday night to control a blaze that consumed a home under construction in Water Mill, fire officials.

Southampton police were dispatched to the massive fire on Seven Ponds Road at 7:12 p.m., said Second Assistant Chief Chris Brenner.

"You can see the smoke as far away as Medford," about 35 miles away, Brenner said.

At least 100 firefighters battled the blaze, he said.

The home was vacant and there were no injuries reported as of 8:30 p.m., when firefighters were working to douse remaining hot spots, Brenner said.

Fire marshals arrived on the scene and were working to determine the cause of the blaze, he said.
