Eight apartments were damaged Thursday in a Hauppauge fire that does not appear to be suspicious, Suffolk police said.

A caller had reported the fire at the Fairfield West apartment complex on New Highway at 2:15 p.m., Suffolk police said.

No one was injured, police said.

At least four departments responded to the blaze — Smithtown, Central Islip, Commack and Hauppauge, authorities said.

Police said arson detectives were continuing the investigation, but did not detail why the fire appeared to be noncriminal.
