Two fishermen needed to be rescued from the Nissequogue River on Saturday morning when one man slipped off a sandbar and his friend leaped in to rescue him, Suffolk County police said.

The incident occurred roughly 100 yards offshore near Old Dock Road in Kings Park. Facing rough currents, the two men were unable to get back to the sandbar, police said.

The Suffolk County Marine Bureau, along with the Kings Park Fire Department, aided in the rescue.

Both men refused treatment and were uninjured, police said.
