Five departments were battling a Commack house fire that was called in about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to Suffolk fire officials. The departments responding were Commack, Greenlawn, Kings Park, East Northport and Smithtown.

A fire official said the blaze started on the second floor of a Chatham Road home. The fire was mostly out by 6:15 p.m., but had not been declared under control, the official said. No injuries were reported.

"The whole house is still ablaze," one neighbor, who identified himself only as Joe, said about half an hour after firefighters arrived. "There's about like 15 trucks and the water's going and they're in the house. We saw a lot of smoke coming out of the top of the house and all of a sudden, truck after truck started coming in. They went in and started hammering in through the windows."
