The first time he called 911, it was to report a shooting at a home for the developmentally disabled. The second time he called 911, it was to report the building was on fire.

Now, Gerron L. Floyd, 28, of Flanders, is under arrest, charged with making fake 911 calls, Southampton Town Police said.

Floyd was charged with second-degree and third-degree falsely reporting an incident - the first charge a felony, the second a misdemeanor. He was arrested Monday and was scheduled to be arraigned in Southampton Town Justice Court later.

It was not immediately clear when the offenses took place, but police said both involved Floyd's former place of employment, a home to aid the developmentally disabled.

Police said the first 911 call was to report an assault in which someone at the home had been shot, the second call to report a fire at the home.

Police said officers who investigated the first call found it to be a false report.

The Riverhead Fire Department responded to the second call, which also proved to be a false report, police said. Police said Floyd was released on station house bail.
