A Flanders man was arrested in the sexual abuse of a 15-year-old girl with a plane ticket and passport in his possession, State Police said Friday.

Wilmer Escalante, 27, of 43 Oak Ave., was arrested at his home at about 6:20 p.m. Thursday, according to a news release. He was charged with two counts of performing a criminal sex act, a Class E felony, and one count of sexual abuse, police said.

Escalante was scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Southampton Town Justice Court, police said. His arraignment information was not available.

Police said the victim, an older sister and their mother reported the incident to the Riverside station on Thursday.

The three told an investigating officer that Escalante, who had been a friend of the victim, entered the victim's bedroom at about 3 a.m. Nov. 4 where "they engaged in sexual relations," police said.

The sister told police she had heard that Escalante had purchased a one-way ticket to Honduras and was leaving on Friday, police said.

Later Thursday, when Escalante was arrested as he returned from work, he had a plane ticket for a Saturday trip to Honduras and his passport, police said.
