A Bellport man who hit and critically injured a woman while driving in Coram on Christmas Eve was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, Suffolk police said.

The woman, who has not been identified, was walking north on Fife Drive at about 11:30 p.m. when she was hit by Floyd Patterson's 2002 Hyundai Sonata, driving the opposite direction, police said.

Coram Fire Department took the woman to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.

Patterson, 56, was taken to the Sixth Precinct. He later arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Central Islip and was held pending a bail of $150,000 bond or $50,000 cash. The name of his attorney was not immediately available.

His car was impounded for a safety check, police said.

Detectives investigating the accident ask anyone with information on the collision to call the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
