Dense fog that made the morning commute especially challenging gave way to clear, sunny skies Wednesday, with more springlike warmth on tap.
Like Tuesday, Wednesday is again shaping up to have highs in the 60s. The National Weather Service predicts sun and a high near 64.
There's a chance of rain and fog Wednesday night, then showers may continue Thursday. Otherwise, it will be cloudy with a high near 62, the service said.
Friday, Veterans Day, will be mostly sunny but cooler, with a high near 54. Temperatures will continue their dip into the 50s on Saturday and Sunday, with sunny skies continuing, the agency said.
The service said Wednesday's fog could be attributed to high humidity -- as high as 100 percent in some areas -- and unseasonably warm overnight temperatures with little or no wind. It was 47 degrees outside at 4:15 a.m.
Neither Nassau nor Suffolk police reported any increases in accidents or incidents because of the fog, spokeswomen for each department said.
