Forecasters Monday warned of potentially dangerous surf conditions as Hurricane Igor passes well east of Long Island.

Igor will pass about 600 miles east of Montauk Monday, which will cause large swells and rough surf Monday through Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

A high surf advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Tuesday, with 6- to 10-foot waves expected, resulting in minor beach erosion and dangerous rip currents, according to the National Weather Service.

In addition, lack of rain over the past month and low humidity, as well as gusty winds, prompted the weather service to issue a warning of a high risk of brush fires in the tri-state area. The alert is mostly for daytime on Monday, as winds are predicted to diminish in the evening.

Temperatures will be high near 78 degrees Monday, with lows falling to the 50s in the evening. Tuesday will be in the low 70s during the day and 60s in the evening. It is predicted to be in the high 70s or low 80s for the rest of the week during the day, with a slight chance of showers Wednesday night.
