Four hospitalized in Melville crash
One person was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center, two were transported to Nassau University Medical Center and another was taken to Huntington Hospital -- all, with serious injuries -- following an early-morning single-car crash on Route 110 in Melville Friday, police and fire officials said.
The accident occurred at 3:16 a.m. on southbound Route 110 between Fletcher Place and the Northern State Parkway, Suffolk County police said. A spokesman for the Melville Fire Department said the car slammed into a utility pole and said the department responded with 30 volunteer firefighters and emergency medical services personnel, as well as with a heavy rescue truck, two engines and three ambulances. Personnel from Dix Hills and Huntington Manor also were on scene.
The victims had to be extricated from the wreckage, the spokesman said.
Police said there was no update on the conditions of the patients, whose identities have not been released. Police said the incident remains under investigation and no other details were immediately available.
