A Lake Ronkonkoma man was transported to the hospital with serious injuries early Saturday after crashing his motorcycle near the Long Island Expressway in Ronkonkoma.

Frederick Fegel, 48, was riding his 1998 Harley-Davidson motorcycle as he left a Gulf gas station on Ronkonkoma Avenue at Express Drive North when his motorcycle went out of control and crashed at 12:06 a.m., police said.

Fegel was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries, police said. No one else was involved in the crash, they said.

Hospital officials said Fegel was in critical condition Saturday late morning.

The motorcycle was impounded for a safety check and Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating, police said.

Anyone with information on the crash should contact Fourth Squad detectives at 631-854-8452.
