A 47-year-old man charged in a fatal hit-and-run that occurred Saturday night in Brentwood is being held on $500,000 bond or $250,000 cash bail, according to court records.

Fredy Pavon of Brentwood was arrested early Sunday by detectives from the Suffolk County Police Vehicular Crime Unit. Police said Pavon was arrested after detectives located his damaged car.

Police said Pavon struck Santos Amaya, 31, of Central Islip, as he walked across Islip Avenue, just south of Sage Street in Brentwood about 10 p.m. Amaya was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead.

Pavon was charged him with leaving the scene of an incident without reporting a fatality.

He is scheduled to appear in court next on Dec. 13.
