The first frost advisory of the season has been issued for Long Island. It affects eastern Suffolk County and warns of temperatures in the mid 30s from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Although 32 degrees is freezing, "it doesn't have to be exactly that for a frost advisory," Lauren Nash, a meteorologist with the Upton office of the weather service, said.

Sensitive outdoor plants could be killed by the frost if left uncovered, the advisory said.

The advisory also affects southwest Connecticut and the outlying suburbs north and west of New York City, the weather service said.

Friday is expected to be sunny, with highs in the low 50s. There was a chance of rain again Saturday -- with snowfal possible in the New York region -- followed by sunny weather Sunday.
