The Suffolk County Police Department's recruit class is helping host a fitness workout Sunday to raise money for a 9/11 charity, the department said in a news release.

The nonprofit is the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which was set up in the aftermath of Sept. 11, 2001, to help families of those who were killed in the terrorist attacks.

The exercise session will be led by certified personal trainers; the "workout fee" is $15, with T-shirts on sale for $20.

It's being held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Hauppauge High School, 500 Lincoln Blvd.

Past charitable efforts "have raised money to bring food to the staff at local hospitals during the COVID pandemic; held food drives to benefit Long Island Cares; conducted toy drives to donate to the United States Marine Corps Reserves Toys for Tots program, and worked with a local group called Jammin’ for the Community to make and distribute more than 15,000 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for local students," the department said in an email.

The current class has 69 recruits, the email said. The current class started Oct. 25 and is expected to graduate May 27.
