A 2-year-old girl being pushed in a stroller was killed Monday evening when the child and her mother were struck by a Ford pickup in Patchogue, Suffolk police said.

Nataly Brito Maurad was pronounced dead at Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue, authorities said.

Her mother, Vilma Graciela Maurad Centeno, 21, of Patchogue, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries, police said.

Maurad Centeno had been pushing her daughter west across Medford Avenue when the 2005 Ford pickup struck them at 6:18 p.m. in front of 192 Medford Ave., police said.

The driver was not injured. The Ford was impounded for a safety check, police said.

Efforts to reach the victim's family and the driver of the vehicle were unsuccessful.

Suffolk detectives ask anyone with information about the collision to call 631-854-8552.

Thus far in October, at least eight pedestrians have been killed in collisions on Long Island.
