The girl seen running down a residential Islandia street late Tuesday has been found unharmed, police said.

Detectives found the 6-year-old girl at an undisclosed location and time, and "a referral to Suffolk County Child Protective Services has been made," police said in a Wednesday news release.

Police responded to a 911 call from a man on Bergen Street at 11:20 p.m. Tuesday. The man told Fourth Precinct officers he saw what appeared to be a female child, about 4 years old, running westbound on Bergen toward Split Cedar Drive.

The man told police the child was alone and wearing white pajamas and no shoes.

Police had no reports of a missing child, the spokeswoman said early Wednesday.

Police used two canine units and helicopters to search the area for the child, according to a news release. They also conducted a house-by-house search in the neighborhood where the girl was last seen, the release said.

Also, a Code Red System was activated in which police called all residents in a half-mile radius of the scene to notify them of their search.

A spokeswoman declined to provide more details after the girl was found.
