A 13-year-old girl crossing a Central Islip street suffered serious injuries on Wednesday night after she was struck by a vehicle, Suffolk police said.

The victim was crossing Wheeler Road near Central Islip High School at about 8 p.m. when a Nissan Rogue going south on Wheeler struck her, police said.

The teenager was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, police said.

The Nissan driver,  Luis Alberto Curranza Caspa, 47, of Central Islip, remained at the scene and was not injured, police said. His vehicle was impounded for a safety check.

Third Precinct detectives ask anyone with information to call them at 631-854-8352.
