A Greenport man was killed when his dirt bike collided with another in the Cove Beach Estates area of East Marion.

Southold town police say Jefferson Treadwell, 23, was riding the bike on a private road Sunday night when he collided with Terrence Lawrence, 29, also from Greenport, coming from the other direction.

The two men were taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital by the East Marion Fire Department's rescue squad, where Treadwell was pronounced dead from his injuries, and Lawrence was transferred to Stony Brook University Medical Center for further treatment.

No criminal charges are expected to be filed. The two dirt bikes were impounded for safety inspections.
