Power fully restored in Greenport, official says
Power has been fully restored in Greenport after a village-wide power outage that started Thursday morning and lasted into the night for a small section of the community, an official said.
"We would like to take this opportunity to thank our customers for their patience and understanding throughout this difficult day," village clerk Sylvia Lazzari Pirillo said in an email shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday.
The outage started around 7:45 a.m., after a relay problem at the village's utility, Lazzari Pirillo said.
While power started to be restored within two hours, a part of Front Street and streets that are south of Front Street were still without electricity as of midafternoon, she said.
Many businesses in the affected area remained open, she said, depending on their power needs. Retailers and a hotel were open, she said, but a shop selling, say, ice cream or yogurt, would be more affected.
