An overnight Halloween-based sobriety checkpoint in Huntington Station netted 10 arrests on charges of driving while intoxicated, one including a man with a child in his car, Suffolk County Police said.

Police officers from the Suffolk County Highway Patrol Bureau Selective Alcohol Fatality Enforcement Team conducted the checkpoint on Route 110 in Huntington Station from 11:10 p.m. Friday to 3:06 a.m. Saturday. A total of 562 vehicles went through the checkpoint, police said.

Among those arrested was Mario Cruz, 34, of New York Avenue in Huntington Station, who was charged with a Leandra's Law violation for driving while intoxicated with a child under the age of 16 in the vehicle, police said. Cruz was also charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

In addition, police said, eight motorists were charged with driving while intoxicated. They are:

* Thomas Callaghan, 45, of 31st Avenue in Woodside, Queens;

* Michael Mahoney, 67, of North East Edgewater Drive in Stuart, Florida;

* Nick Vitucci, 31, of Chesapeake Bay Road in Coram;

* James Briner, 35, of Pinelawn Avenue in Shirley;

* Maxwell Kaestner, 21, of Salt Meadow Road in Babylon;

* Thomas Petrizzo, 39, of South Street in Oyster Bay;

* Ruslan Nazmutdinov, 27, of Linwood Avenue in Bel Air, Maryland;

* Martha Suarez, 23, of Clay Pitts Road in East Northport.

In addition, Roberto Vargas, 30, of South First Street in Babylon, was charged with driving while ability impaired by a combined influence of drugs and alcohol.

All 10 motorists will be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip.
