Hampton Bays man arrested after he punches patrol car

Southampton Town police said a Hampton Bays man who had been involved in a domestic dispute was arrested after he punched the patrol car of officers who arrived at the scene in Hampton Bays.

John Tarlen, 39, was arrested Wednesday night at the Bel Aire Cove Motel in Hampton Bays and charged with disorderly conduct, second-degree obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest, police said.

Police said Tarlen was intoxicated and yelled obscenities at the officers. No one was injured.

Police said Tarlen had been involved in the domestic dispute, but did not provide additional details.

They said that when officers arrived at the motel on Shinnecock Road at 11:11 p.m. Tarlen punched their patrol car and ran after it, shouting obscenities at the officers.

Arraignment details were not immediately available.
