A Hampton Bays man wanted in Florida on two warrants was arrested Thursday by State Police after the vehicle he was a passenger in was stopped for a traffic offense on Sunrise Highway in Southampton.

Police said Richard K. Eberhardt, 32, was arrested on the charge of being a fugitive from justice. He was arraigned in Southampton Town Justice Court and remanded without bail to Suffolk County Jail pending extradition to Florida.

The more serious of the two outstanding warrants against Eberhardt, police said, was on charges of leaving the scene of a crash resulting in injury, driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and a probation violation. It is from the Miami-Dade County Sheriff.

The second warrant was for non-extraditable traffic offenses from the Lee County Sheriff's Office. That sheriff's office is based in the Gulf Coast city of Fort Myers.

The traffic stop was at 11:35 a.m. Thursday.
