Hate crimes detectives probe Farmingville burglary

Hate Crimes unit detectives are investigating a Sunday afternoon break-in in Farmingville that left a number of items damaged, among them a Quran.

Suffolk County police said it was not immediately clear if anything was actually stolen from the home on Linwood Avenue. The break-in was reported at 1:52 p.m., police said.

Police said it also was not clear if the home was targeted.

Nonreligious items also were damaged during the burglary, police said.

Police said Hate Crimes detectives were called in to investigate because of the damage to the Quran, which is the central religious text of Islam.
