A fire at the New York State Office Building, 250 Veterans Memorial Hwy. in Hauppauge, has been declared under control, said a representative of Suffolk County Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services.

One firefighter was taken to St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center, Smithtown, he said.

Thirteen departments responded to the 4 p.m. call, including those from Hauppauge, Smithtown, St. James, Nesconset and Ronkonkoma, another FRES representative said.

The cause has not been determined, he said, but may be related to a transformer in the basement.
