A Hauppauge couple was killed Monday in a one-car crash in northeastern Pennsylvania, authorities confirmed Tuesday night.

Alexander Protosow, 89, and Louise Protosow, 83, died after the car they were riding in veered off an embankment on Route 6 and crashed near Shohola shortly before noon, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Pike County Chief Deputy Coroner Chris Brighton said the Protosows were passengers in the backseat of the car. The driver and front passenger were treated at a hospital and released.

Officials believe snow and freezing rain contributed to the accident.

At the time of the crash, the group was headed to The Lodge at Woodloch, a spa resort in Hawley, Pa.

Relatives of the victims were not immediately available for comment.
