Road improvements for Fifty Acre Road in Head of the Harbor Village will cost up to $472,670, village officials said.

That is $110,000 more than originally estimated, officials said, but the village is applying for a $200,000 matching grant from Suffolk County to offset part of the cost, trustee and volunteer Highway Commissioner Judy Ogden said at Village Board work session last Tuesday. The village will scale the project back if the county awards less than the full amount, she added.

Fully funded, the project would include repaving and extensive drainage improvements, including an earthen bioswale to filter and funnel runoff water from the flat land alongside the road to a recharge basin at the south end of the road.

“Finally, these things we’ve been talking about are coming to a head,” Ogden said
