A car drifted into oncoming traffic Tuesday morning in Sag Harbor and slammed into an oncoming vehicle, Southampton Town police said.

"He stated he fell asleep," spokeswoman Lt. Susan Ralph said of the driver.

Christopher Legendre, 22, of Islip Terrace, was on Noyack Road when he crashed into a Honda driven by Josephine Barrera, 30, of East Hampton, police said. The Honda overturned in the collision, which occurred just before 7 a.m. by Brick Kiln Road, police said.

Both drivers were airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, she said.

A hospital spokesman said both have been discharged.
