Heavy rainfall could cause coastal flooding across southeastern Nassau and Suffolk counties, the National Weather Service said Tuesday morning in an urban flood advisory.

The hazardous weather advisory expected rain to fall at rates of 2 inches per hour as the Upton-based service tracked a morning storm that extended "from Lindenhurst to 14 miles southeast of Robert Moses State Park to 35 miles south of Center Moriches," it said in the advisory.

The service warned of "minor flooding in poor drainage areas" as a result of the heavy rainfall. Water also is likely to collect on roads, the service said.

The flood advisory lasts until 12:30 p.m., the service said.
