A beach at Heckscher State Park has been cleared for swimming, the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation said Friday.

Acceptable water quality samples from Field 6 West Beach, located within the park in East Islip, allowed officials to reopen the waters to swimming, the state agency said in a news release.

Poor water samples had forced closure of the beach on Thursday.

Up-to-date information on beach closures at Heckscher is available by phone at 631-581-2100.
