A St. James man cut his forehead Saturday hiking in Harriman State Park and was airlifted to a Westchester hospital for treatment, a parks spokesman said.

The man, 60, who was not identified, was hiking on Pine Meadow Trail at about 1 p.m. when he fell and hit his head on a rock, a spokesman from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation said.

State Park Police and forest rangers helped the man from the wooded area in the park, which covers parts of Orange and Rockland counties. He was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, the spokesman said.

The man never lost consciousness and his injury was not life threatening, the spokesman added.
