History of John White case

THE CASE

AUG. 9, 2006.

Daniel Cicciaro Jr., 17, is shot shortly after 11 p.m. outside the home of John White on Independence Way in Miller Place. Cicciaro dies 80 minutes later at John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson.

SEPT. 14, 2006. White pleads not guilty in Suffolk County Court to second-degree manslaughter and weapons possession charges.

DEC. 22, 2007.

Suffolk jury - after a monthlong trial, including four days of deliberation - convicts White of second-degree manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.

MARCH 19, 2008.

White is sentenced by County Court Judge Barbara Kahn to 1 1/3 to 4 years in prison for manslaughter and 2 years for the weapons charge. Sentences are to run concurrently.

JUNE 29, 2010.

The state Court of Appeals, New York's highest court, refuses to hear White's appeal of his conviction. White, free on $200,000 bail during the appeals process, is ordered to appear July 8 before Kahn for "execution of sentence."

JULY 8, 2010.

White surrenders in Suffolk County Court to begin serving his prison sentence.

DECEMBER 23, 2010

New York Gov. David A. Paterson commutes White's sentence. White was released Thursday morning from Mount McGregor Correctional Facility in Wilton.
