Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed an 87-year-old woman crossing the street Monday morning in Greenport.

Southold Town police identified the deceased woman as Elaine Schwartz of Greenport. Cops said the incident occurred at Third Street about 7:20 a.m. and that the unknown driver fled the scene.

Schwartz was taken to nearby Eastern Long Island Hospital where she died, police said.

A suspect had not been arrested as of Monday afternoon.

The investigation was ongoing, cops said.
