Holbrook fire destroys, damages private ambulances
A fire at the headquarters of a private ambulance company in Holbrook Monday night destroyed three ambulances and damaged about 7 others, fire officials said.
The fire at the American Medical Response ambulance company on Lincoln Avenue was reported at 9:35 p.m., and took about 60 firefighters from Holbrook and Sayville fire departments about an hour to bring under control.
Holbrook Fire Department Chief Joe Fannon said no one was injured in the fire, but there was smoke damage throughout the large one story garage and office area.
The fire apparently began in one of the parked ambulances and then spread, Fannon said, but the cause of the fire is under investigation.
