Islip town officials hailed the demolition of a dilapidated home in Holbrook last week.

The abandoned house at 135 Flintridge Drive was demolished by the town on Tuesday after years of neglect, according to officials. The rear had partially collapsed, the roof had holes and water damage had created mold inside the home.

“Houses like these aren’t just an eyesore that bring down the property values of responsible homeowners, but are also health hazards to our neighborhoods,” said Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter in a release. “We are going to work vigorously to eliminate the threat to the welfare of our neighborhoods that is posed by these houses.”
