A homeless man has been charged with burglarizing a house of worship in Coram earlier this month, Suffolk police said Tuesday.
Police said Christopher Loeb, 31, entered the Chabad House of Coram at 87 Mount Sinai Coram Rd. and stole coins on July 7. The burglary was recorded on surveillance video, police said.
Patrol Officer Greg Hasemann responded to the burglary and told Sixth Precinct detectives that he thought the suspect was Loeb, police said. Hasemann looked for Loeb during his daily patrols, and found him Tuesday about 7:30 p.m., police said.
Loeb was interviewed by detectives and arrested in the burglary, but the coins were not recovered, police said.
Loeb, who police said has no home, was charged with third-degree burglary and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Wednesday.
