A horse is a horse, of course. Of course. And the three horses a resident spotted on a lawn on Cedar Avenue in Medford early Tuesday morning weren't wild horses or warhorses and, certainly, weren't talking horses -- like Mr. Ed.
Someone called 911 just after 1:30 a.m. A short time later, Suffolk County police arrived on the scene.
Seeing the cops, the equine trio made like flying horses -- and took off to their stable at a Cedar Avenue home, police reported.
"The horses got spooked and ran home and into their stable. The owner came out, identified them as his horses. They were on a neighbor's lawn. How they got there, we're not sure at this time," a police spokeswoman said Tuesday.
It was not immediately clear what kind of horses were involved in the incident or how the animals got loose.
Cedar Avenue is south of the Long Island Expressway, located between North Ocean Avenue to the west and Old Medford Avenue to the east.
