Hudson, a 19-year-old cougar and one of the most popular animals at the Long Island Game Farm in Manorville, has died.

Nearing his 20th birthday, Hudson lived well past the 13-year life expectancy of a cougar. He was euthanized Sunday due to old age, a park spokeswoman said.

“We lost our dear friend Hudson last weekend,” Melinda Novak, the park’s co-owner, said Friday in a news release. “He was loved by so many LIGF employees and visitors alike. At almost 20 years old, he had a long and happy life.”

Hudson was moved from the Catskill Game Farm after it was closed in 2006. He spent his remaining years in a large grassy enclosure next to Clifford the Giraffe, another popular animal at the Long Island Game Farm.

The zoo is closed for the winter and will reopen on April 16.
