Huntington appoints DelCol deputy supervisor

Huntington Supervisor Frank Petrone has tapped the current director of the town's engineering services department as the town's next deputy supervisor.

Patricia DelCol will replace Deputy Supervisor Laure Nolan, who retires later this month.

"Pat has had a distinguished career in the public and private sectors and has a deep understanding of the town, town government and town issues," Petrone said in a statement.

DelCol, a Melville resident, has worked on and off for the town since 1986. She has held her current post for the past five years.

"I am excited by this challenge and I thank Supervisor Petrone for the confidence he has shown in my ability to serve town residents," DelCol said in a statement.

A lifelong Huntington resident, DelCol graduated from Walt Whitman High School and attended Stony Brook University and the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University. She holds a bachelor's degree in biology and environmental science and a master's degree in cell biology. She began working for Huntington government in 1986 as director of environmental control.

DelCol oversaw all waste-related divisions - landfill, incinerators, recycling and refuse collection, as well as the Harbormaster's office, animal control, sewer districts, environmental programs, bay management programs, beaches and marinas.

She left town government in 1988 and returned two years later as the department's deputy director. She became director again in 1994.

In 1998, DelCol left the town again and went to work for Covanta Energy as business manager of Covanta Babylon. She returned in 2005 to Huntington Town in her current post.

She started her career as a senior environmental planner for the Town of Babylon.
