Huntington boy, 10, dies at R.I. camp
A boy from Huntington was found dead early Saturday at a Boy Scout camp in Rhode Island, police there said.
Police with the town of Hopkinton did not immediately identify the boy, 10. They said rescuers tried to resuscitate him, but he was pronounced dead at the camp about 7 a.m.
The death happened at Camp Yawgoog near the Rhode Island village of Rockville, police said.
About 1,000 boys are camping there this week, The Providence Journal reported.
Hopkinton Police Chief William A. McGarry said police wouldn't identify the boy because they wanted to give his family time to reach relatives, the paper reported.
Rescuers initially suspected that the boy may have suffered cardiac arrest, the paper reported. An autopsy was scheduled for Saturday afternoon, police said.
He died in his sleep, according to Rhode Island's NBC 10.
A dispatcher with the Hopkinton Police said no one was available last night to give more details.
Camp Yawgoog is about 28 miles from Providence, in southwest Rhode Island near the Connecticut border. The site has been a Boy Scout camp since 1916, according to its website.
